He put a fiver, which was all the money that he had, into starting the Ironmonger company, which has grown immensely. The company belonged to the Dyas family until it was sold to Change Capital Partners in 2004 and later sold to Lloyds Banking Group and Allied Irish Banking Group in 2009. The business greatly expanded its web offerings in 2010 and has started modernising many in-store displays using technology. Theo Paphitis purchased the Wimbledon-based company in 2012.
