About Wickes
Wickes has its roots as a one-stop-shop for construction and building supplies in the company of the same name that began in the United States in the 1950s, which itself had existed as a business as far back as 1854. The company opened its first store in the UK in 1972 in Whitefield, Manchester. At the time, it was an innovative concept for the UK to turn the DIY retail model into a store that sells to construction companies. It was the first merchant to serve builders in the UK with a fixed-price outlet. In the 40 years since its first store, Wickes has opened more than 230 stores across the UK, and it continues to lead the builder merchant retail sector.
