From flowers to jewelry, common gifts are seeing noticeable increases compared to last year. To understand what's driving these changes, CouponFollow analyzed year-over-year pricing across popular gift categories using retail data and federal inflation metrics. Find out where costs are climbing fastest and where shoppers can still find value.

Last-Minute Shopping Comes at a Premium
Waiting until the final days before Mother's Day can significantly increase costs, especially when it comes to shipping fees.

Last-minute shoppers pay $5 to $20 more per gift in rush shipping fees, from $5 for same-day flowers to $20 for overnight chocolates.
Chocolates carry the biggest procrastination penalty by far. Rush shipping on chocolates can cost $20 more than standard, a 167% markup.
Procrastinating on Mother's Day could cost you up to $45 in extra shipping alone.
If you wait on all four gift categories—flowers, jewelry, chocolates, and perfume—the combined rush shipping premium could add up to $45 on top of what you'd otherwise pay.
Smart Ways To Navigate Rising Costs
Mother's Day gifting is becoming more expensive in 2026, with price increases across most traditional categories. Higher costs for flowers, jewelry, and chocolates are driving much of the overall spending increase, while shipping fees add another layer of expense for late shoppers.
Planning ahead and focusing on lower-increase categories can help shoppers stay within budget. Finding Mother's Day deals and applying discounts where possible can also make a meaningful difference at checkout.
Methodology
We analyzed year-over-year price changes across six popular Mother's Day gift categories, including flower bouquets, jewelry under $500, chocolates and candy, spa services, perfume and beauty gift sets, and greeting cards, using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Consumer Price Index data and current retail pricing.
Flowers: 2025 baseline prices were sourced from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, capturing product listings from 1-800-Flowers.com, ProFlowers.com, and FTD.com in late April 2025. Current 2026 prices were collected from the same three retailers on April 14–15, 2026. Year-over-year changes were calculated both at the cross-retailer average level and for individual products appearing in both years' collections.
Jewelry, chocolates, spa services, perfume, and greeting cards: BLS Consumer Price Index data provided year-over-year price changes for each category. Current 2026 retail prices were collected from major retailers on April 14–15, 2026: Pandora, Zales, and Kay Jewelers (jewelry); Godiva, See's Candies, and Walmart (chocolates); Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa (spa services); Sephora and Ulta (perfume); and Walmart, Target, and Walgreens (greeting cards).
Shipping premiums: Standard vs. rush delivery fees were compared at FTD (flowers), Pandora (jewelry), Godiva (chocolates), and Sephora (perfume) on April 15, 2026.
All prices reflect non-promotional, regular pricing. Cross-retailer averages are simple averages of each retailer's mean price.
